The
South Eastern Wildlife Art Expo in Charleston U.S.A. has over the
past nine years become an annual event for me. A place I so enjoy
visiting, where many friends have been made in the past. This year
was no exception. As always a warm welcome greeted me when I arrived.
Reunited with many friends and clients alike, I set up yet another
show of my artwork. I have always prided myself on taking a whole
new body of work to this particular event and was able to achieve
it once more.
My
images centred around the African theme as usual, with Buffalo,
Elephants, Antelope, as well as a smattering of Big Cats. The show
looked good and I was excited at the prospect of a great time. I
was not disappointed, the team at SEWE put together a grand event.
As usual I painted at my stand allowing the visitors to see something
of my techniques. This always seems to go down well with the organisers
and visitors alike.

Behind
the scenes other events happened as the social side of Charleston
took over at the end of each day. This is always welcomed after
a long day on one's stand. Sadly Charleston ends far too soon for
me, just as I am getting started it ends and yet one more time I
have to say goodbye to all my friends new and old until the following
year.
A highlight
for me was seeing Robert Bateman again and having a chat. He is
such a gentleman, always willing to impart some valuable advice
to others. He was having a show at a nearby gallery and I was invited
to the opening. It was a lesson in painting in itself. I never get
tired of viewing Roberts work, as each canvas reveals a new insight
into what wildlife painting is all about.
With
the show over and paintings repacked, I trekked on down to sunny
Florida and friends ( and a few galleries), where I joined my partner
Catherine for a well earned break. Lying beside a warm pool drinking
cool cocktails felt a million miles away from the cold wet conditions
in England.
Like
all good times they end, and so the wet and cold of the U.K. was
to be experienced once more, roll on 2005.
